Terry, Group Partner at Pittis
I was in my early thirties and living in Sandown. I looked at the guys in the office as I walked past and thought it was something I could do. An advert appeared in the County Press and I applied. I was manager of the branch within a year and Group Partner within another year. Within four years of starting I was Group Partner for all the offices on the island.
Running the Newport office is great because it keeps me in touch with what’s happening and I enjoy the cut and thrust. I’m in the office at 7.30 to prepare for the morning sales meeting and the rest of the team arrives at 7.50. The sales meeting is when we review our business opportunities and make sure we haven’t missed anything. We’ll look for financial services we can offer clients and review our diaries for the day. I make sure that everyone knows their targets and what they need to do to hit them.
I’m proud of my career progression and the company has given me great support. When I started you got sat at a desk and it was sink or swim. But these days all new starters go on the induction course. Our training is award winning and it gives you the confidence to do the your job.
You can always see where you’re going once your career gets started. I’ve always had clear targets and there are training programmes as you progress. There are incentives in the key areas of the business to encourage us to go for it and increase our earnings potential.
I genuinely like Pittis as a company. I wouldn’t still be doing this after 21 years if it wasn’t true
The Arun Awards Points are a straightforward reward for things that aren’t directly business related. This includes outstanding customer service – what we call out-passioning. We also get transport and accommodation for the annual awards held on the mainland.
We have a set of principles known as the Arun Way. It keeps us aware of what we need to be doing and how we treat the public and each other. We’re trying to change people’s perceptions of estate agents and I see us giving a higher level of service because of it.
I’ve taken part in our charity work and cycled round the island last year. We raise money for a Action Medical Research and Dream Holidays. Dream Holidays is a local charity that gives respite holidays to families with a child with Cystic Fibrosis. Some of our team also took part in the Human Race triathlon at Blenheim.
Pittis is a great place to work, where you will be supported throughout your career.
